Buccaneers | Two players placed on IR

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed RB Michael Smith (foot) and CB Anthony Gaitor (knee) on Injured Reserve.

Footballguys View: An important note for fantasy owners looking to handcuff Doug Martin. At this time it looks like rookie Mike James (Miami) will be the primary backup. Smith has electric speed but needs to get healthy and prove himself next year in camp.

Cardinals | Rob Housler has high ankle sprain

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said TE Rob Housler (ankle) is dealing with a high ankle sprain. He is considered day-to-day at this point but the team hopes he will be ready for Week 1.

Footballguys View: Housler was a hot sleeper TE earlier this offseason. That has cooled this preseason but he’s an important player to keep on your waiver wire speed dial. Monitor his health and his role with the Cardinals before you make a move to add him as a depth TE with some upside.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd expected to be ready for season

San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy said WR Malcom Floyd (knee) participated in individual drills and a few team drills during practice Monday, Aug. 26. McCoy said Floyd should be ready for the start of the regular season.

Footballguys View: Good news for the Chargers and QB Philip Rivers here. Floyd is a favorite target of Rivers and we expect the Chargers to be playing from behind a lot. This would open things up for the passing game and lead to more targets for guys like Floyd, Vincent Brown, and Keenan Allen.

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said RB Rashard Mendenhall (knee) is considered day-to-day at this point.
