49ers | Robbie Gould says family will dictate decisions

K Robbie Gould still hasn’t signed the franchise tag extended to him by the San Francisco 49ers earlier this offseason. The 36-year-old has requested a trade which the team has refused up to this point. Gould says he’s prioritizing time with his family, who remain in Chicago, Ill. ‘It’s a complicated situation,’ Gould said. ‘The way I’ve kind of approached it is, I want to spend time with my family. And I let my agent handle it, and if anything comes up that I have to make a decision or be in the know, he’ll call me and let me know. But right now there’s nothing to really know, and I’m just enjoying being home and being in Chicago. … I’m at a point in my career where my family is what’s going to dictate the decisions that I make.’

Footballguys View: Gould’s family is in Chicago and no team needs a kicker more than the Bears. The problem is that the 49ers might be asking a lot for him in a trade and the Bears will balk at giving up a high pick for a kicker. This seems like a situation with a wide range of outcomes, including retirement for Gould.
