Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone said Tuesday, Aug. 27, that rookie QB EJ Manuel (knee) needs to be cleared to practice by Wednesday, Sept. 4, if he is to play in the regular season opener Sept. 8 against the New England Patriots. Even then, Manuel would need to pass an evaluation. QB Jeff Tuel legitimately has a chance to open the season as the starter.
Footballguys View: Tuel knows the system better than newly acquired Matt Leinart. He’s also the healthiest option the Bills have at QB right now. E.J. Manuel is the franchise QB and looked good in the first two weeks of the preseason. The team doesn’t want to rush him back too soon from his knee injury.
