Denver Broncos QB Drew Lock has a fan in new general manager George Paton, but Paton quickly added that the team still plans on bringing in outside competition for the starting job this offseason. ‘We do like Drew Lock,’ Paton said at a news conference Thursday, April 22. ‘What we don’t want to do is force (competition). We still have time. There’s a trade market. We still have the draft. We’re going to be patient … not force it. But we do want competition’
Footballguys View: Zero surprise here. Lock was one of the worst starting quarterbacks last year and the team is looking for an upgrade. That will come through a veteran via trade (like Teddy Bridgewater) or via the first round in the 2021 NFL draft (Justin Fields anyone?). Either way, Lock will not be handed the job like he was last year. Let’s see if he can respond to the added pressure.
