The Denver Broncos resumed practice today with rookie Montee Ball (Wisconsin) as the first-team running back. Ronnie Hillman had been starting and getting a majority of the first-team reps this offseason but two fumbles this preseason have crushed his hopes of starting for the time being. The team is likely to use a RBBC featuring Ball, Hillman, and veteran Knowshon Moreno in 2013. Head coach John Fox did caution not to read too much into the pecking order at this time. “It’s just practice.” Fox said.
Footballguys View: John Fox has a long history with using some form of RBBC. Ball has a nose for the end zone and should be the team’s primary back when they’re close to paydirt. Hillman is the most explosive and can be a big play option if he hangs onto the ball. Moreno is the best in pass protection and should see plenty of time in the hurry up offense. Overall this continues to be a mess for fantasy owners to figure out.
