Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin is one of several running backs vying for playing time in the team’s backfield, along with RBs Dominique Brown, Bobby Rainey and Charles Sims. Martin has shed some body fat and re-gained weight in muscle. He is excited about the competition and feels good. “Competition out here helps us all,” Martin said. “If you don’t have anybody that’s pushing you then who’s going to make you better?”
Footballguys View: Don’t write Martin off just yet. Earlier this year, reports seemed to indicate that this was going to be Charles Sims’ backfield with Martin playing a supporting role. He was a breakout player as a rookie in 2012, but Martin has struggled with production and injuries over the last two seasons. If Martin is back to form, Sims is going to face a tough battle for the starting job. Watch this competition unfold in training camp.
