New England Patriots to take a look at Coastal Carolina duo

A total of 15 NFL teams sent representatives to Coastal Carolina’s pro day on March 27, when nine players worked out outdoors on FieldTurf. Coastal Carolina had two prospects at the NFL Scouting Combine, and both players will be worked out by the New England Patriots on Friday. Matt Hazel, WR (6-foot-1, 203 pounds) — Hazel did the short shuttle in 4.47 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.75 seconds (though, he slipped twice while running the three cone). He then stood on the rest of his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine. Hazel has worked out for the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Lorenzo Taliaferro, RB (6-0 1/8, 231) — Taliaferro had a 34-inch […]

There were 10 players who worked out at McNeese State’s pro day on April 7. The workout was held outdoors and run on FieldTurf on a 55-degree day and in windy conditions. Nic Jacobs, TE (6-foot-5, 265 pounds) — Jacobs ran the 40-yard dash in 4.76 seconds with the wind and 4.86 seconds against the wind. He had a 35-inch vertical jump and 9-foot-9 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.72 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.40 seconds. He had a good positional workout. Jacobs has visits scheduled with the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers. Dominique Easley draws interest from a number of NFL teams

Representatives from seven NFL teams — including Chicago Bears defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni, Baltimore Ravens defensive line coach Clarence Brooks and Jacksonville Jaguars defensive line coach Todd Wash — were present for a workout by Florida defensive tackle Dominique Easley on April 17. Easley missed most of the 2013 season with a torn ACL, and won’t be a full go until June. However, he did do position drills. Easley moved very well in those position drills and displayed good quickness. His best position in the NFL is at defensive end. Easley has visits scheduled with the Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and St. Louis Rams.Filed under: Pro Days Tagged: Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, […]

Eagles, Seahawks D-line coaches at Delaware pro day

The defensive line coaches from the Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks were in attendance for Delaware’s pro day March 18. Fourteen teams in all were on hand to watch 12 players work out indoors on artificial turf. The players worked out in spikes, which led to faster times than usual. Zach Kerr, DL: Kerr had a good workout on his pro day and stood on his numbers from the combine. He was also measured and weighed – 6-foot-1 5/8, 323 pounds, with 32 3/4-inch arms. Travis Hawkins, CB: Hawkins (5-foot-9 5/8, 192 pounds) ran the 40 twice, posting times of 4.37 and 4.44 seconds, but because they ran in spikes, those times would probably convert to 4.41 and 4.48 seconds. He […]

Lions defensive line coach at Connecticut pro day

Representatives from 23 teams attended Connecticut’s pro day on March 11, including Detroit Lions defensive line coach Kris Kocurek. Twelve players worked out indoors on FieldTurf, including two guys who were at the combine. Yawin Smallwood, LB: Smallwood (6-foot-2 1/8, 242 pounds) was unable to jump at his pro day because of a left hamstring injury. I spoke with him today to see if he was ever able to put in a timed run, and he said no. He did perform position workouts with Kocurek at his pro day, however. Shamar Stephen, DL: Stephen (6-foot-4 5/8, 307 pounds) also had a hamstring issue at his pro day and did not run the 40, but he put in a nice workout […]

Colts coach watches Colorado’s Paul Richardson

Indianapolis Colts wide receivers coach Charlie Williams was among the representatives from 26 teams on hand for Colorado’s pro day March 12. Seven players worked out indoors on FieldTurf. Most were on hand to see wide receiver Paul Richardson, who was measured at 6-foot, 170 pounds. Richardson posted a 37 1/2-inch vertical jump and ran a 4.23 short shuttle and 6.98 three-cone drill. He stood on the rest of his combine numbers. The concern with Richardson has always been his slight frame and if he’ll have durability issues in the NFL. I spoke with him this morning and was told he now weighs 180 pounds, which is significant. What you don’t know now, however, is how those 10 extra pounds will affect […]
