Northwestern held a second pro day on Wednesday — the first was held on March 4 — and 16 NFL teams sent representatives, including the New York Giants sending a wide receivers coach, to the workout. A total of four players worked out indoors on FieldTurf, and the key participant was Kain Colter, who was invited to the NFL Scouting Combine but couldn’t work out and also didn’t participate in the initial pro day in Evanston, Ill. There were representatives from 26 NFL teams present to see 14 prospects work out at San Jose State’s pro day on March 19. Bene Benwikere, CB (5-foot-11, 189 pounds) — Benwikere ran the 40-yard dash in 4.70 and 4.69 seconds. He then stood on the rest of his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine (he was a top performer in his position group in the vertical jump). Representatives from nine NFL teams — including the running backs coaches from the Arizona Cardinals (Stump Mitchell) and Philadelphia Eagles (Duce Staley) — were present at UNLV’s pro day on March 13 to watch nine players work out outdoors on FieldTurf. The player those running backs coaches were there to see was Tim Cornett (6-foot-0 1/8, 209 pounds). Representatives from 11 NFL teams were present at Memphis’ pro day on March 17, when 12 players worked out outdoors on FieldTurf. Memphis had one player who participated at the NFL Scouting Combine, punter Tom Hornsey. Hornsey (6-foot-3 1/2, 218 pounds) only participated in punting drills at the pro day. Lonnie Ballentine, FS (6-3, 219) — Ballentine ran the 40-yard dash in 4.39 and 4.45 seconds. He had a 38-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-5 broad jump. Representatives from 12 NFL teams — including an offensive line coach from the Detroit Lions — were present at Grand Valley State’s pro day on April 11, when seven Lakers players worked out indoors on FieldTurf. Matt Armstrong, C (6-foot-1 5/8, 298 pounds) — Armstrong — who was at the NFL Scouting Combine — ran the 40-yard dash in 5.18 seconds. He had a 32-inch vertical jump and 8-foot-10 broad jump. He did 24 lifts of 225 pounds on the bench press. Armstrong did not do the shuttle runs or three-cone drill. Representatives from 24 NFL teams — including defensive backs coaches from the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers — were present to watch eight Terrapins players work out outdoors on FieldTurf on a sunny, 60-degree day in College Park, Md. on April 8. Dexter McDougle, CB (5-foot-10 1/4, 196 pounds) — McDougle ran the 40-yard dash three times, doing so in 4.53, 4.47 and 4.51 seconds. He had a 37-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-2 broad jump.
