Chargers | Ryan Mathews’ arrest would not have been a surprise

If Ryan Mathews had been arrested for his involvement in an altercation outside of a nightclub, it would not have been “all that surprising nor disappointing”, according to Kevin Acee, current columnist and long-time Chargers beat writer for the San Diego Union-Tribune. Acee called it “fairly common knowledge that Mathews is frequently out at places that serve plentiful alcohol and occasionally are host to unsavory behavior, even at times and dates that show questionable judgment”.

Footballguys View: Mathews has failed to deliver on expectations that were set very high when the Chargers traded up to the 12th pick of the 2010 draft. This column gives some insight into why Mathews has disappointed, and why it is probably not a great idea to stick your neck out for him unless he presents a great value in your draft – in the sixth round at the earliest. Danny Woodhead is looking like a better sleeper pick in the 10th round or later of PPR drafts every day. Don’t be surprised if the Chargers kick the tires on Willis McGahee, because head coach Mike McCoy knows him from their time together in Denver last year.
