San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Jan. 8, and is wearing a walking boot for an ankle injury.

Footballguys View: Mathews has the mindset that he will play on Sunday against the Broncos. The team is hoping he can play as he’s the engine to the offense. The Chargers want to control the time of possession against Denver, and Mathews is the best way they can do that. The Broncos have only allowed one 100-yard rusher this season, Mathews in Week 15 (a Chargers victory).
