Kansas City Chiefs second-round WR Mecole Hardman got off to a rough start in rookie minicamp Saturday, May 4 – showing rawness in his routes, mishandling a couple of punts during individual return drills and dropping a couple catches off easy throws – but he was fielding punts cleanly and making difficult, leaping catches just over the goal line during red-zone drills by Monday, May 6, according to Brooke Pryor of the Kansas City Star.’Every day he got a little better. … These routes are new to him. He did a nice job in the red zone, which normally is the toughest place to work, but he did extremely well there. He had a good finish,’ head coach Andy Reid said.
Footballguys View: This is a great sign for the young playmaker and the Chiefs offense. Who knows what in the world is going to happen to Tyreek Hill. The NFL may suspend him, the Chiefs may release him…or things could work out where Hill remains with the Chiefs and continues to shine on offense. Hardman is there as an insurance policy in case Hill is no longer with the team or suspended. The rookie from Georgia has a ton of speed and can get vertical in a hurry. Any piece of this offense, especially one with the talent of Hardman, should excite Fantasy GMs in any format.
