Dallas Cowboys DE Anthony Spencer (knee) is on the field running as he continues to come back from microfracture knee surgery, but he is not sure when he will be able to practice. “It’s one thing to be able to run and then another whole thing to play football, so I’ve got a little ways to go,” Spencer said. “But it’s progress and that’s basically what I’ve been showing this whole time.”
Footballguys View: We’ll get more excited when he hits something, but this is good progress. The Dallas defense is in a state we like to call “dumpster fire” with the departures of Jason Hatcher and DeMarcus Ware as well as injuries to numerous guys. Spencer has underperformed the expectations set for him and our staff expectations of him as a defensive end aren’t high to begin with. There are a lot more reliable choices than Spencer coming off a knee issue.
