Dallas Cowboys LB Bruce Carter had big problems covering his opponents in the team’s Week 4 loss to the San Diego Chargers, in which the team allowed QB Philip Rivers to throw for over 400 yards. LB Ernie Sims saw more time at the expense of Carter. ‘We wanted to give Ernie Sims some chances to come play, particularly in that nickel package, so a combination of those two things. Bruce was also dealing with a little bit of a foot injury in the second part of that game,’ head coach Jason Garrett said. ‘So we mixed those two guys in, gave Ernie some chances, and we’ve just got to get better there. Bruce has been a good cover linebacker for us, and he’ll be a good cover linebacker for us again.’ Sims may remain in nickel packages over Carter starting in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos.
