Geoff Mosher, of CSNPhilly.com, believes that Nick Foles has a better chance to start at quarterback for the Eagles than Michael Vick. He cites the 50/50 split of reps between the two in OTAs and Vick being the older and more expensive quarterback as the main factors. Mosher also believes that if fourth-round pick Matt Barkley is barely behind Foles and Vick in training camp, “logic dictates” that the Eagles will go with the rookie.
Footballguys View: The Eagles do have 3.5 million guaranteed dollars tied up in Vick, but they would save four million more by cutting him. They might be compelled to start him if the competition is to close to try to recoup some value for their investment, but Chip Kelly believes in open competition. Foles definitely has a chance to win the job and the investment in Vick is not greater than the investment Seattle made in Matt Flynn. The Seahawks didn’t start Flynn over Russell Wilson, but Foles is no Wilson. The bottom line here is that Vick is not entrenched as the starter, so he shouldn’t be counted on as anything but a QBBC option right now because the rug could be pulled out from under his owners at any moment.
