Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones showed up to training camp under the promise of a new contract coming his way in the near future. General manager Thomas Dimitroff said Tuesday, July 23, it remains a work in progress. ‘We have the utmost faith that Julio is coming here and he’s taking care of his business while he’s here, and we’ll keep plugging away with (Jones’ agent) Jimmy (Sexton),” Dimitroff said. ‘… I’m confident (the deal) will get done.” Dimitroff acknowledged the possibility of Jones’ camp waiting to see what New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas signs for in a deal that could reset the receiver market. ‘I understand that, from a business standpoint,” Dimitroff said of waiting for the market to be set. ‘Do I agree with it necessarily? That’s not for me to argue about.’
Footballguys View: The Falcons have taken care of business with DT Grady Jarrett and LB Deion Jones so far this offseason. That leaves Jones as the next man up. He should get a contract that pays him as one of the top WRs in the NFL…again.
