New York Jets defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman has spoken highly of rookie S Calvin Pryor and CB Dexter McDougle, but he’s not handing out any starting jobs just yet. Thurman said SS Dawan Landry will always have a key role on defense.
Footballguys View: The Jets learned last year not to bring their defensive backs along too quickly, having had to throttle back their use of Dee Milliner until he got settled late in the season. Pryor isn’t banged up like Milliner was, and has a good chance of ending up in that starting strong safety spot, while McDougle is a guy who needs some reps and will likely rotate in for some time. Both are big hitters though, so we expect to see the Jets use them to enforce the middle of the field, something the defense has struggled with for years.
