Jets | Michael Vick, Geno Smith would compete

If the New York Jets sign free-agent QB Michael Vick (Eagles), the team plans for him to compete for the starting quarterback job with QB Geno Smith, according to a team source. Vick has history with offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg from their time with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Footballguys View: This just smells like a big, fat Tebow-sized disaster. The Jets didn’t give Geno Smith any weapons last season and if they put him in a battle with Vick, he’s likely to lose. In which case, what now? They might as well go ahead and draft a player in May. In a vacuum, Vick could be a good bridge quarterback for the Jets, would increase Eric Decker and Jeremy Kerley’s value and could come with a side of DeSean Jackson as rumors are the Jets might acquire him. It would be an upgrade of the offense-right until Vick goes down with an injury behind that degrading offensive line.
