ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. thinks the New York Jets desperately need to draft some quarterback insurance for QB Geno Smith this year. However, Kiper believes New York should look to select a quarterback later in the draft, with Easter Illinois QB Jimmy Garoppolo, Louisiana State QB Zach Mettenberger, Georgia QB Aaron Murray and San Jose State QB David Fales as options.
Footballguys View: We already know that, much like the rest of the quarterbacks from the 2013 rookie class, Geno Smith has not proven he is the long term answer. It makes sense that the Jets would look to add another developmental quarterback, but they should add a veteran as well so they don’t end up with the same issue they had last year with a quarterback under center too soon.
