Former NFL RB Clinton Portis said he played through concussions all the time. ‘It was just the way things were at the time,’ Portis said. ‘I’d get hit hard and be woozy. I’d be dizzy. I’d take a play off and then go back in. Sometimes when I went back into the game, I still couldn’t see straight. This happened all the time. Sometimes once or twice a game.’
Our View: This matches up with what many of us experienced as kids playing sports, when you would just take a few plays off when you got your “bell rung”. The crucial fact that will determine how the hundreds of lawsuits against the NFL will turn out is whether the NFL was aware of the danger of players continuing to play immediately after suffering head injuries.
