Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (ankle) participated in seven-on-seven drills for the first time since his ankle surgery in March. He’s about a month ahead of schedule, as he was initially supposed to start drills at training camp in July. Newton said he’s excited to return, but admits he’s not at 100 percent. Head coach Ron Rivera said Newton made good decisions and the right reads, but didn’t get the ball where he needed to, adding that accuracy will come with time as Newton becomes healthier. Additionally, the team plans to limit his runs in training camp.
