Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton will not play in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 16, according to a source.

Footballguys View: Newton has reworked his throwing motion to reduce the torque on his shoulder. The team doesn’t want to have Newton get banged up in a meaningless game. We’ll see if he plays later in the preseason.
