Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart carries a cap hit of $9.55 million to go with his base salary of $5 million in 2016. The Panthers would save $4 million in salary cap space if they released Stewart by June 1, but they are still expected to keep him.
Footballguys View: Stewart was very good in 2015 before getting hurt, but he still held up much longer than he had earlier in his career under any kind of workload. It is a good sign that he was effective and durable for a while under a starter’s workload, and the team doesn’t seem to be ready to make 2015 fifth-round pick Cameron Artis-Payne a bigger part of the offense.
