The New England Patriots have reached out to unrestricted free-agent WR Steve Smith (Panthers).

Footballguys View: The Pats could actually use a few receivers, with Julian Edelman leaving and Danny Amendola probably being wrapped in bubble wrap now. Belichick has taken elderly players before and wrung production out of them and Smith has more left than most.
