Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie had some good things to say about Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel heading into the 2014 NFL Draft. The Raiders have the fifth overall pick in the draft and will likely consider taking a quarterback with that pick. ‘He’s a playmaker,’ McKenzie said. ‘Whether it’s him or one of these other guys, when you can add a playmaker, that’s what you shoot for.’ McKenzie said he’d prefer to sit a rookie quarterback for the first year while they build a team around him.
Footballguys View: Manziel was beloved by his teammates in college. He’s known as a great leader who is incredibly athletic. Manziel can keep plays alive with his feet while keeping his eyes downfield. His playmaking style may not fit the pro level, and scouts would like to have seen him make quicker decisions in college.
