Redskins | Matt Jones’ yards after contact lacking

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones ranked 45th among running backs last season in yards after contact (1.44). He did improve in that area later in the season, averaging 1.68 yards after contact in the second half of the season.

Footballguys View: Jones is not quite “motorboat” worthy as a power back. Smaller backs like Ameer Abdullah (28th, 1.7), Ronnie Hillman (30th, 1.65) and Duke Johnson Jr. (32nd, 1.62) rank well above Jones. The league average for yards after contact per rush is 1.82 yards, so Jones clearly has a ton of room for improvement. By comparison, Thomas Rawls led the league with an average of 2.68 yards after contact per rush.
