Houston Texans QB AJ McCarron (thumb) was able to make some throws before the final preseason game Thursday, Aug. 29, and appears to have a good chance to be ready for Week 1.

Footballguys View: McCarron could be the backup to Deshaun Watson if he’s ready for the start of the season. Right now, Joe Webb is the top reserve behind Watson with rookie Jordan Ta’amu also on the roster.
