Vikings | Irv Smith Jr. draws favorable comp

Minnesota Vikings second-round TE Irv Smith Jr. was drafted in part because the team believes the new offense under offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski and assistant head coach/offensive advisor Gary Kubiak will be similar to what QB Kirk Cousins ran while he was a member of the Washington Redskins. Cousins leaned heavily on Jordan Reed during his time there, and general manager Rick Spielman believes Smith share more than just a few similarities.’That type of tight end we haven’t had here, and I know that’s a big part of Kubiak’s and Stefanski’s offense right now. The other thing I thought was, don’t want to put (Smith) there yet, but he has a lot of (Jordan) Reed-like traits in Washington, and that’s why he was very appealing to us,’ Spielman told ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.
