Lions | Cliff Avril says arrests do not reflect team

Detroit Lions franchise free-agent DL Cliff Avril said it is unfair to label the team as troublemakers despite an offseason marred by off-field trouble. ‘You can’t label us by a few young guys getting in trouble,’ Avril said. ‘You can’t put that on the other 53 guys on the roster. That makes no sense. Obviously they are part of the team, but I don’t think it’s correct to put that on the other 53 guys who are on the roster.’

Buccaneers | Arron Sears suing team

Free-agent OL Arron Sears (Buccaneers) is suing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the NFL over health problems that he attributes to concussions suffered on the field. Sears says his career ended because of neurological problems related to head trauma, and his lawsuit claims his parents now have to care for him because he can’t care for himself. ‘Sears has almost total loss of function, is unable to care for himself and cannot take (care) of his day-to-day activities,’ the lawsuit says. ‘Further, Arron Sears has extreme displays of temper and anger with the appurtenant risk of causing harm to himself and others.’

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald in search of a Super Bowl

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald said he is happy to be considered among the best players in the league; however, after eight seasons, Fitzgerald is in search of a championship. ‘I’ve completed eight NFL seasons, and while I am somewhat satisfied with personal achievements, I have come close only once to achieving the ultimate team goal,’ Fitzgerald wrote on his Facebook page. ‘Being a productive wide receiver is no longer enough. I’ve grown into a position of leadership as a Cardinals team captain and have tried to expand my role as a mentor and example for our core of young players. My sincere hope is that we can get back to the playoffs on a regular basis and become Super Bowl Champions.’

Cowboys | Chris Canty feels Tony Romo hurting team

New York Giants DL Chris Canty said Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo is not a clutch player, which is why the Cowboys have not been as successful as the Giants recently. ‘Romo’s a tremendous quarterback, statistically he’s a top five quarterback, that’s undeniable,’ Canty said. ‘At the end of the day, in the clutch situations, he hasn’t performed as well as you would like him to. I think ultimately, that’s been the difference between their franchise and the Giants’ ability to be successful.’ Canty added the Giants believe they can force Romo to make mistakes when the pressure is on. ‘Obviously, when you put pressure on any quarterback you can cause mistakes,’ Canty said. ‘I think Romo has been prone to make mistakes in the clutch situations and his team has not been able to be successful because of it.’
