New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees has teamed up with PACE (Protecting Athletes Through Concussion Education), a program that provides free concussion testing for more than 3,300 middle and high schools and youth sports organizations. ‘Any time you can educate young kids and their parents, especially in regards to concussions and raise awareness, is vital,’ Brees said. ‘It’s helping them to understand the symptoms and the treatments for concussions and the baseline tests, how you would test to see if someone did have a concussion, making a comparison to the baseline testing such as in the PACE program.’

New York Giants CB Terrell Thomas (knee) said he plans to be one of the team’s starting cornerback this upcoming season. ‘I’ve said I’m the starter, and they brought me back to be the starter, and that is the mindset I have,’ Thomas said. ‘I’m not going to go in saying, ‘Oh, I want to compete for a job.’ No, I’m the starter.’

Bears | Brandon Marshall critical of former receiver coaches
Chicago Bears WR Brandon Marshall said he has yet to play under a good receivers coach during his pro career. ‘To be honest (when I arrived in Miami) I was like, ‘You know, I need some coaching. Right now I’m coming off my natural ability.’ … I haven’t had a good coach as far as that receiving position since I’ve been in the NFL,’ Marshall said. ‘As far as technique and someone who understands the game, the last time I had a good receiving coach was D.J. McCarthy in college.’

Lions | Calvin Johnson stronger, faster
Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson has looked stronger and faster during offseason practices, according to WR Nate Burleson. ‘I know it sounds corny,’ Burleson said. ‘You wouldn’t think a guy like that could come back and get better, but he does … That’s pretty much all that counts. He probably dropped a little bit of weight, so he’s in extremely good shape. I see him in the weight room, so I know he’s stronger. And on the field he’s yards ahead of us in conditioning drills; he’s still running past guys easily.’

Titans | Defense working on pass rush
Tennessee Titans pass-rushing assistant coach Keith Millard said he has been teaching players the basics of how to rush opposing quarterbacks. Millard is in the process of overhauling much of what the Titans have learned about pass rushing, whether that means changing their hand placement, footwork, hip movement or strategies to get after the quarterback. ‘He’s teaching a lot of different stuff than what we went through last year,’ DL Karl Klug said. ‘Everything, from footwork to the rhythm of the pass rush that he’s been getting us to learn, has kind of been a struggle for most of us. It’s just different and it takes a while to get used to. Hopefully by the time training camp rolls around, I’ll have a better grasp of it.’

Broncos | Ryan Clady looking forward to conventional offense
Denver Broncos OT Ryan Clady said he is excited to be playing in a more conventional offense after blocking for QB Tim Tebow last season in a more run-heavy offense. ‘It’s kind of going back to what we did before, for the most part, before Tebow was the quarterback, just more conventional offense,’ Clady said. ‘It’s a little different. We will probably pass the ball a little more and (be) more of a balanced offense. But I’m excited to see what is going to happen, and I’m excited for the future.’
