Vikings | Husain Abdullah says goodbye

Minnesota Vikings FS Husain Abdullah plans to take a spiritual journey, sitting out the 2012 NFL season. However, the possibility remains that he could resume his playing career sometime in the future. However, Abdullah doesn’t sound like he’ll be returning to Minnesota. ‘Minnesota is a beautiful place with beautiful people. Honored I could experience it. Peace,’ Abdullah said in a text message Friday, June 22.

Lions | Will find creative ways to utilize FB

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said Friday, June 22, that the key is finding creative ways to get the most of the fullback position. They did not have a fullback on the roster previously until signing FB James Bryant during the offseason. ‘(TE Will Heller) lined up in the backfield an awful lot for us last year,’ Schwartz said. ‘We’ve done that an awful lot. I think the whole key is having players that can do a lot of different things. The days of having a fullback that can only be a lead blocker are sort of gone. The fullbacks around now are more multi-dimensional players.’

Jaguars | Uncertain if they’ll keep two or three QBs

The Jacksonville Jaguars are uncertain if they’ll keep a third quarterback behind QBs Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne. QB Jordan Palmer is on the roster, and QB Nathan Enderle was added Friday, June 22. Smith said the team will keep three if the third quarterback is in the team’s top 53 players. ‘(The practice squad quarterback) would have to be good enough to hopefully be a third or we would have to go to the street and get a veteran,’ Smith said. ‘And we’ve done that before. You can keep your quarterback healthy. That is our goal with our pass protection.’

Chargers | Robert Meachem comfortable in new system

San Diego Chargers WR Robert Meachem spent the past four season working with the New Orleans Saints and QB Drew Brees. He notes significant similarity between Brees and QB Philip Rivers, and he likes the style of head coach Norv Turner. ‘As far as approach, you have two coaches on the field who tell everybody where to go, put people in the right spots,’ Meachem said. ‘And you enjoy that, being a wide receiver.’
