Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch was arrested early Saturday, July 14, in Northern California on suspicion of driving under the influence. Lynch was suspended for violating the league’s personal conduct policy in 2009 after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor weapons charge, and he missed the first three games because of that suspension.

Vikings | Jerome Simpson looks to give receiving corps big boost
Outside of Minnesota Vikings WR Percy Harvin, no other receiver topped 40 catches or 500 yards in 2012. The team added the speedy WR Jerome Simpson, and offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave is very excited about his addition, especially because of his speed on the outside. He also said there is a nice rapport building between Simpson and QB Christian Ponder. ‘I think they sense we’re going to give both of them a chance to make a ton of plays,’ Musgrave said.

Vikings | Greg Childs looking to get speed back
Minnesota Vikings WR Greg Childs (knee) was slowed in 2011 as the result of a torn patellar tendon suffered in 2010. Offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave is looking to take advantage of his speed, as long as he is healthy. ‘He’s got the speed to get down the field. But he also has the size to muscle little DBs at the same time,’ Musgrave said. ‘We’re counting on the human body healing up. With the significant injury he had, it’s usually a 15-to-18 month healing process. And he’s just getting to that threshold.’

Vikings | Plan to use Jarius Wright’s speed
Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave plans to use the speed of WR Jarius Wright to the team’s advantage early and often. ‘He’s quick. Very quick. I’m looking forward to finding out how his quickness is going to translate against NFL defenses,’ Musgrave said. ‘He’s got great balance. He can get in and out of breaks. And he’s lightning quick. We’re hoping he’s a super man-to-man beater for us.’

Vikings | Excited about John Carlson in red zone
Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave is excited about the addition of TE John Carlson and his potential in the red zone. ‘In the red zone, he has a sense for zone and an ability to slide into an opening and then make a tough, contested catch,’ Musgrave said.

Vikings | Matt Kalil looks to help terrible O-line
The Minnesota Vikings offensive line allowed 49 sacks, fifth-worst in the NFL, in 2011. The addition of OT Matt Kalil should help, as he didn’t allow a single sack in 12 games and 447 passes attempted at the University of Southern California last season.

Patriots | Wes Welker might need to take hometown discount
Updating a previous report, the deadline for signing franchise players to long-term extensions came and went Monday, July 16, and the New England Patriots and WR Wes Welker failed to reach an agreement. He’ll play under the franchise tag this season, and it would be a surprise if that happened again in 2013. Welker might need to decide between getting paid or playing with QB Tom Brady at a hometown discount for future years.

NFL | Chris Chambers already contemplating comeback
Retired WR Chris Chambers will open a new training facility in South Florida Aug. 5, and he thinks he might benefit from the facility to make a potential return to the NFL. ‘If it gets to the point where I’m feeling good with our medical crew that’s going to be in here and some of our trainers, and the nutrition I’ll be on, maybe I’ll get a stab at (a return to the NFL),’ Chambers said. ‘It would be great to play as a Miami Dolphin because it’s right around the corner. If they need help at receiver, just a leader in the locker room to come out there and make some plays I’d be open to doing that.’

Jets | Santonio Holmes doesn’t think two-QB system can work
New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes said Monday, July 16, that he doesn’t feel that a two-quarterback system can work in the NFL. The Jets could alternate using QBs Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow this season. ‘I don’t think so,’ Holmes said. ‘Because you have to allow on quarterback to get in the rhythm of a game. And it starts from the preparation of practice.’
