The New England Patriots want franchise free-agent WR Wes Welker to take less money in a long-term contract in order to continue playing with QB Tom Brady. Welker would like a deal that guarantees him just below the $21 million he would get paid playing two years under the franchise tag. Atlanta Falcons LB Akeem Dent said he has been watching film with LB Lofa Tatupu this offseason and that Tatupu has been helping understand things even though the two are expected to compete for the middle linebacker job during training camp. ‘We’re learning together, watching film, making corrections,’ Dent said. ‘He’s helping me out a lot in terms of trying to understand everything. A guy like Lofa, that has been to the Pro Bowl and an All-Pro player, it’s been great for me. I’m a competitor. I know he’s a competitor also, but at the end of the day it’s good for the Falcons to have two guys that will be ready to play at any point.’
