Patriots | Britt Davis on roster bubble
New England Patriots WR Britt Davis, out of football last season until the team added him to the practice squad for the playoffs, has a slight chance of making the 53-man roster in training camp. He has good size at 6-foot-3, making him the tallest receiver on the roster other than WR Matt Roark, and he is relatively young at 26. However, what might work against Davis is the fact he doesn’t figure to contribute much on special teams. His closest competition for a roster spot is expected to be WRs Jeremy Ebert, Jesse Holley, Roark and veteran WR Donte’ Stallworth.

49ers | Garrett Celek battling for roster spot
San Francisco 49ers TE Garrett Celek has soft hands and has shown an ability to run solid routes. He still faces an uphill battle for a spot on the 53-man roster, but he might be able to make another roster or certainly land a practice squad spot with a continued strong showing in preseason.

49ers | Duo battling for No. 3 TE duties
San Francisco 49ers TE Nate Byham (knee) is back after a season-ending injury, and he is trying to hold off TE Konrad Reuland for the third tight end job. Byham is viewed as more of a blocker than a receiver, while Reuland is considered to have much better hands. Byham’s chances of making the roster might also hinge on how well DL Demarcus Dobbs does at the tight end position. Dobbs, who has shown an ability to block, would make Byham rather redundant.

Cardinals | LaRon Byrd makes presence felt
Arizona Cardinals WR LaRon Byrd, an undrafted rookie free agent, had a strong showing at organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp. In his hometown back in Louisiana, people nicknamed him ‘Little Fitzgerald.’ Now, he is playing alongside WR Larry Fitzgerald, a player he idolized growing up. The two have struck up a friendship, and the Pro Bowler has taken the rookie under his wing. Byrd turned heads in minicamp, making several impressive catches, but he still has an uphill battle to make the club in training camp and the preseason.

Patriots | Daniel Fells did not take part in offseason program
New England Patriots TE Daniel Fells (ankle) is still considered the leader for the third tight end job, although he did not take part in organized team activities (OTAs) or minicamp. Fells is slowly recovering from an ankle injury. Undrafted rookie TE Tyler Urban and TE Alex Silvestro are the only challengers to Fells.
