Patriots | Stevan Ridley has leg up in early competition?

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley has been carrying the load early on in training camp, seeing first-team reps. The situation at running back hasn’t been clearly defined, but Ridley saw the most snaps as the No. 1 back Friday, July 27. RB Shane Vereen also saw some first-team reps late in practice, and the battle for the starting job is expected to primarily be between those two players.

Our View: Ridley is the battering ram, while Vereen is better used as a change of pace back. Don’t forget about Danny Woodhead here either. The Patriots RB situation is a messy one for fantasy owners.

I can throw the ball, too.’

Jets | Rex Ryan criticizes Jeremy Kerley

Updating a previous report, New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said Saturday, July 28, that he is ‘disappointed’ with WR Jeremy Kerley (hamstring), who will now miss a week of action with a hamstring injury.

Our View: Ryan is rarely critical of his players in public, so putting Kerley on blast is noteworthy. Kerley has reportedly struggled to learn the new offense and is on the roster bubble.

Eagles | Damaris Johnson, Marvin McNutt catch break

Philadelphia Eagles WRs Damaris Johnson and Marvin McNutt will get a chance to fill in as the fourth wide receiver during training camp and the preseason with WR Riley Cooper (collarbone) out with a fractured left collarbone. ‘We’re excited about the guys on our roster,’ general manager Howie Roseman said Saturday, July 28.

Our View: They have different skill sets and can contribute in different ways. McNutt is a big, physical WR who knows how to box out defenders. Johnson is an athletic WR who is dangerous after the catch.

Eagles | Riley Cooper fractures left collarbone

Philadelphia Eagles WR Riley Cooper (collarbone) was forced out of practice Saturday, July 28, due to a fractured left collarbone. He fell awkwardly after getting tangled up with CB Curtis Marsh.

Our View: Typical collarbone injuries take one or two months to recover from. Pending X-rays should reveal how bad Cooper’s break is.
