Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said he’s ‘a little bit surprised’ and ‘a little bit disappointed’ that RB Jahvid Best (concussion) has not been cleared for contact nine months following his last concussion. Best is symptom-free and has been working out since December. The team isn’t in a rush to make a move to fortify the running back corps in case Best can’t play. RBs Kevin Smith and Stefan Logan have taken most of the repetitions in training camp so far with RB Mikel Leshoure (hamstring) dealing with a hamstring injury.

Philadelphia Eagles DE Jason Babin (calf) suffered a partially torn calf muscle in his left leg and will be out two to three weeks. There remains a chance Babin may miss the entire preseason. Babin, who had 18 sacks last year, underwent an MRI, which confirmed a Grade 2 strain.

New England Patriots rookie RB Brandon Bolden, an undrafted rookie free agent, has been a nice surprise during training camp and it appears he has a solid shot at making the team’s final roster. He has a nice mixture of size (5-11, 220), speed, power and he has caught the football well.
