Saints | Garrett Hartley enters as starter
New Orleans Saints PK Garrett Hartley (hip) enters training camp as the kicker of the future, and he is considered to have a stronger leg. He is expected to win the starting job, but the 43-year-old PK John Kasay is nipping at his heels. It is conceivable that both kickers could earn a roster spot.

Jets | Jeff Otah doesn’t pass physical
New York Jets OL Jeff Otah (knee) did not pass his physical Wednesday, July 25, and if he does not pass it in the next week, he might be headed back to the Carolina Panthers. The team placed Otah on the active/physically unable to perform list after failing the physical. He battled knee problems during his tenure with the Panthers, which is why he played just four games over the past two seasons. A league source said the trade was contingent on Otah passing his physical with the team in the next seven days, or he heads back to Carolina.

Eagles | Mychal Kendricks humming along
It is believed Philadelphia Eagles LB Mychal Kendricks will need to play and practice poorly in training camp and the preseason to lose his starting strong-side linebacker job. The team likes the speed of Kendricks, which is a must for a linebacker playing behind the ‘Wide 9’ defensive line alignment the Eagles employ.

Eagles | Two rookies could win jobs on defense
Philadelphia Eagles DL Mike Patterson (brain) is not cleared to practice when training camp opens. An unfortunate situation for Patterson opens up an opportunity for DL Fletcher Cox, the team’s first-round selection, at defensive tackle. The team has depth with DLs Antonio Dixon and Derek Landri challenging Cox.
