New York Giants DL Osi Umenyiora said he refuses to heap praise for Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III by referring to him as ‘RG3,’ even though that’s basically what everyone calls him. ‘Who is this RG3 guy you guys keep talking about?’ Umenyiora said. ‘You talking about Bob Griffin? You guys are giving him a cool nickname already and everything. When he does anything in the NFL we’re gonna call him RG3. Right now he’s Bob Griffin.’

Ravens | Joe Flacco open to negotiations during season
The agent for Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco, Joe Linta, said he is leaving the door open for contract negotiations to continue after the Ravens get training camp going. There is, again, no deadline in his mind. ‘Not on our end … Halloween, Thanksgiving, whenever, and Joe gives me the leeway to talk whenever,’ Linta said. ‘We’re not creating any artificial deadlines. I do know once he’s on the field, his focus is there, but we can keep working.’

Eagles | DeSean Jackson could be part-time punt returner
Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson will give up punt return duties most of the time; however, special teams coordinator Bobby April said he still thinks Jackson will have a role when the team needs a spark. ‘DeSean will return some,’ April said. ‘But we’ll primarily focus him on offense and hopefully find a guy that can do what he can do. We want to use him offensively as a weapon. There’s some wear and tear to a guy his size … Just the amount of running he does at practice. If you can eliminate some of it with the return game, if you can eliminate some of it in practice, he might be a little better replenished on game day. A little more explosive.’

Bills | GM says time to win is now
Buffalo Bills general manager Buddy Nix said it’s time for the team to show improvement and start winning games, particularly with some big offseason additions like DL Mario Williams and DL Mark Anderson. ‘Obviously, the offseason acquisitions helped, but I still think it was time – if we had not gotten Mario and Mark – it would have still been time to start winning some games,’ Nix said. ‘It’s time to close it out and win some games. Until we do, it’s not complete.’

Jaguars | Starting QB job Blaine Gabbert’s to lose
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert will be given every opportunity to remain the team’s starting quarterback this upcoming season. The Jaguars feel QB Chad Henne gives them a better backup situation; however, they don’t head into training camp with a sense that Henne will wind up running the huddle. Head coach Mike Mularkey, coordinator Bob Bratkowski and quarterback coach Greg Olson were hired to effectively build Gabbert into the quarterback the team envisioned when it drafted him.
