Cowboys | Owner supports Jason Garrett

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he defends the playcalling of head coach Jason Garrett late in Week 8. The Cowboys turned the football over on downs on a drive after throwing three times on the New York Giants’ 19-yard line when they only needed to gain a yard for a new set of downs and the Giants were conceding the run. ‘The defense was not giving us anything,’ Jones said. ‘Plus, that’s their strength is their front seven … I have no quarrel with those calls there. We changed a play. We did have an option to run the play. If they had lined up differently we could have run the ball. But under the circumstances, the way they lined up, I don’t second-guess the call.’

Chiefs | Devon Wylie could work as a returner

Kansas City Chiefs WR Devon Wylie (hamstring) could serve as the team’s kick and punt returner as he continues to learn the playbook. ‘He brings some speed and quickness to the team,’ head coach Romeo Crennel said. ‘I think once he gets more reps and kind of gets caught up a little bit … when you’re (injured and missing practice), you’re not where you need to be mentally and you’re not where you need to be in the offense. So we’ve got to get him some more reps, and we’re working on that and then we’ll see if that develops.’

Chiefs | OC defends use of Jamaal Charles in Week 8

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Brian Daboll defended his use of RB Jamaal Charles in Week 8. Charles had just eight touches in the game. ‘Jamaal is a good player … and give Oakland credit,’ Daboll said. ‘They did a nice job of stopping the run. We tried to move it some other ways. Every week is a new week. You go as the game develops. You try to run or pass based some on what you think you can do and some on what they’re doing. If they’re doing a good job of stopping the run over and over, we’re going to try and move the ball in another fashion.’

Rams | Not shopping Steven Jackson

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said the team is not shopping RB Steven Jackson prior to the trade deadline and have not received calls about him, either. ‘The Steven Jackson rumors are rumors,’ Fisher said. ‘He’s our running back and we’re not calling around, nor are we getting calls for that matter. Put that to rest.’
