Steelers | More on Lawrence Timmons

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers LB Lawrence Timmons had his contract restructured Tuesday, Feb. 26, to help the team clear salary cap space. According to a source, the team guaranteed a large portion of the $7.875 million Timmons was owed in total compensation. The move doesn’t cost Timmons anything, as he gets his money up front instead of through the course of the season.

Patriots | Not actively shopping Ryan Mallett

The New England Patriots are not actively shopping backup QB Ryan Mallett, according to a source. Under the new collective bargaining agreement, all players drafted after 2011 or later cannot restructure their contract until they complete their third season. So that’s a snag, as any team that acquires Mallett can’t sign him to an extension until next year, which could take away from some of his value.
