Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers LB Lawrence Timmons had his contract restructured Tuesday, Feb. 26, to help the team clear salary cap space. According to a source, the team guaranteed a large portion of the $7.875 million Timmons was owed in total compensation. The move doesn’t cost Timmons anything, as he gets his money up front instead of through the course of the season.

Under the new collective bargaining agreement, all players drafted after 2011 or later cannot restructure their contract until they complete their third season.
