Lions | Darius Slay selected 36th overall

The Detroit Lions selected Mississippi State CB Darius Slay with the 36th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Our View: The Lions needed to continue to improve the secondary even though Chris Houston is back. This is where they passed on good corners last year for Ryan Broyles, and this year they don’t repeat that mistake.

Facing Cutler and Rodgers twice a year, the Lions had to improve the secondary and Slay will do that.

Eagles | Zach Ertz selected 35th overall

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Stanford TE Zach Ertz with the 35th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Our View: It’s exciting to think about what Chip Kelly might do with a talented player like Ertz, a strong, tough receiver who isn’t an elite athlete but gets the job done. If he can get stronger and come down with more contested balls, he could be a very big part of this offense.

Saints | Malcolm Jenkins uncertain about future

New Orleans Saints FS Malcolm Jenkins said he understands his future with the team is uncertain after the team added S Kenny Vaccaro. ‘When it comes to me, it puts a little bit of uncertainty as far as the future, but nothing in this game is guaranteed. It’s part of the business,’ Jenkins said. ‘But what is guaranteed is an opportunity that we have this year that we have. I know Coach Payton is a big believer in this, and I wholeheartedly agree that competition breeds excellence. The best years that we’ve had is when we have a lot of competition for positions.’

Titans | Justin Hunter selected 34th overall

The Tennessee Titans traded up with the San Francisco 49ers and selected Tennessee WR Justin Hunter with the 34th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Our View: Hunter is a huge help for a young quarterback who needs in in Jake Locker. A player with a huge catch radius who runs a good route, but has some issues with drops and doesn’t quite have the weight or strength to break tackles.
