Chiefs | Rookie TE Kelce to compete for starting job

Adam Teicher, from the Kansas City Star, reports rookie TE Travis Kelce will compete with Tony Moeaki for the starting job in training camp. Chiefs coach Andy Reid loves Kelce’s versatility, “He doesn’t have to play on the line. You can move him out as a wide receiver and he’s a legitimate receiver in that spot.”

Our View: No real surprise here. Moeaki is talented but oft-injured while Kelce is a good all around tight end. He’s a talented move tight end who can be a factor in the red zone as well as attack the deep middle seam of the defense.

Titans | Rookie WR Justin Hunter to play ‘Z’ position

Paul Kuharsky, AFC South blogger for ESPN.com, reports Titans rookie WR Justin Hunter will play the ‘Z’ position for the team.

Our View: The ‘Z’ receiver was manned by Nate Washington last year. We’re expecting him to get traded or released sometime before training camp. Hunter is a fantastic athlete with a nice size/speed combination. He has problems with concentration at time but if focused he can dominate. Kenny Britt will play the ‘X’ spot, with Kendall Wright filling in at the slot.

Texans | Collin Klein will play QB

John McClain, from the Houston Chronicle, reports undrafted rookie free agent Collin Klein will play QB for the Texans. Some had assumed Klein would be in for a position switch in the pros. His game is similar to that of free agent QB Tim Tebow.

Our View: Our very own Cecil Lammey watched Klein up close from the sidelines of the Shrine Game practices earlier this year and was not impressed. Klein has a strong arm but has mechanical issues which leads to accuracy problems. He refused to work out with the tight ends at the Scouting Combine and is a big project as a passer.

Dolphins | Bryant McKinnie visit goes well

Free-agent OT Bryant McKinnie (Ravens) said his meeting with the Miami Dolphins went well.

Our View: The Dolphins seemed to have cooled on the idea of adding Brandon Albert (Chiefs) via trade. Adding McKinnie would work as he could step in and start as their left tackle. If the team adds McKinnie then second-year OT Jonathan Martin would stay as their right tackle.

Browns | Davone Bess wants to be a leader

Cleveland Browns WR Davone Bess not only wants to produce on the field, but wants to be a leader off the field. “Obviously, they have a bunch of young guys there who had pretty good seasons last year,” Bess said. “[I’m ready] to come in and just share my knowledge and be able to help out a group not only from a physical, playmaking standpoint, but just more mental and just understanding the game of football from an Xs and Os standpoint. From what I heard, the guys are great, and I’m looking forward to meeting them all and jelling this team together.”
