Cowboys | Doug Free’s future depends on draft

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said OT Doug Free’s future with the team will largely depend on which direction the Cowboys go in the NFL Draft. Free reportedly will have to take a pay cut to return in 2013. ‘I think it’s notable that we haven’t said where we are and he hasn’t said where he is relative to his status as we go into this draft,’ Jones said. ‘That’s by design and certainly we wanted to see how and what we do in the draft … If you draft a tackle, how does that impact a player like Doug, whether or not you move him around? I’m sure he’s looking at it there as well.’

NFL | Sharrif Floyd defends draft status

Florida DT Sharrif Floyd is considered by many as the top defensive tackle prospect in the NFL Draft; however, some critics have questioned his arm length. Floyd does not believe that to be the case. ‘In my eyes there is no road-block that is going to stop me,’ Floyd said. ‘A lot of people ask me ‘do you feel as though your arms are short’ and I say ‘I don’t play like my arms are short.’ So my tape speaks for itself and the type of person I am speaks for itself.’

Our View: Floyd could be a top five pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. He’s scheme versatile and can play DE in a 3-4 or DT in a 4-3. Floyd is a two gap defender who can stuff the run in the middle of the line. He gets off the snap quickly and has a strong lower base to drive back opponents.

Ravens | Rolando McClain shouted obscenities at police

Updating a previous item, Baltimore Ravens LB Rolando McClain allegedly yelled obscenities at police officers Sunday, April 21, as they were trying to disperse a large crowd of over 700 people at a Decatur, Ala., park after they responded to calls about a fight. The Decatur Police Department also released a statement recounting the details of McClain’s arrest. According to the release, police officers twice ordered McClain to stop walking after they identified him as the individual shouting obscenities, but he kept walking and said, ‘You told me to walk and I’m walking.’

NFL | Manti Te’o falling in draft?

Notre Dame LB Manti Te’o has reportedly fallen off one NFL team’s draft board due to off-field baggage and lack of talent. ‘We’ve kind of taken him off the board,’ said one league scout. ‘He doesn’t have enough ability to put up with all that. Why fool with it? Try-hard, smart (Wonderlic of 23) guy. This was the first year he’s really gotten himself in shape. Some of his teammates think he’s kind of a phony.’

Our View: Most think Te’o will be a late first-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. However, if he fell to the early second-round we wouldn’t be surprised. Te’o worked on his coverage skills last year and hauled in seven interceptions in 2012. He’s got football intelligence and can diagnose plays quickly. Some think the National Championship game against Alabama exposed the problems with his game.

Raiders | Likely to take a QB in draft

There is a good chance the Oakland Raiders will take a quarterback with one of their seven selections in the NFL Draft, with only QBs Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor currently on the roster.

Our View: The Raiders have multiple issues and are unlikely to add a QB with the third overall selection in the first-round. They don’t have a second-round pick as they sent that to Cincinnati to complete the Carson Palmer trade. A QB in the third-round like Mike Glennon (North Carolina State) or Tyler Bray (Tennessee) would make sense.
