Lions | David Akers not doing much at OTAs

Detroit Lions PK David Akers admitted that he’s still not 100 percent following the aggravation that brought on lingering effects of his double hernia surgery last offseason. He hasn’t been doing much kicking in organized team activities so far. He’s taking it slow so he can be ready to go by training camp.

Jets | Latest on QB situation

New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez said the notion of him not starting Week 1 hasn’t crossed his mind. His confidence appeared to be improved one week after Sanchez threw three interceptions during an organized team activity practice and was chided by head coach Rex Ryan. Sanchez, who went 8-for-12 on passing attempts in team drills Thursday, May 30, said his accuracy is ‘where [he wants] it to be,’ echoing offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg’s comments from last week. Ryan said Sanchez’s confidence is returning.

Jets | Mike Goodson impresses

New York Jets RB Mike Goodson looked good while participating in organized team activities Thursday, May 30, catching passes and showing quick feet to beat defenders. ‘You see the speed that he has,’ head coach Rex Ryan said. ‘That’s what jumps out at me anyway. He had the ball in the open field a couple times, and you see the acceleration that he has. That’s been impressive.’

Our View: Goodson’s spot on the roster is not guaranteed but at least he’s doing his best to impress the team. He was arrested earlier this month on gun and drug charges. The team is likely to let the legal process work itself out before deciding Goodson’s fate.

Broncos | Quentin Jammer provides flexibility

Denver Broncos head coach John Fox said CB Quentin Jammer will be used at safety at times in the team’s defensive scheme. Jammer started at least four games in all 11 of his years with the San Diego Chargers at cornerback, but the Broncos see him as a situational player that could line up at both cornerback and safety.

Broncos | Joel Dreessen had offseason surgery

Denver Broncos TE Joel Dreessen (knee) underwent offseason arthroscopic surgery on his knee and will miss the rest of the team’s offseason workouts, including the mandatory minicamp in June. TE Julius Thomas will see increased repetitions in the absence of Dreessen.

Our View: Dreesen should be ready for the start of training camp. The procedure was considered minor and shouldn’t hold him back in August. In the meantime Julius Thomas was making big plays with the Broncos first-team at minicamp.

Redskins | Robert Griffin III throwing off back foot

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (knee) has begun throwing, planting his feet, and taking seven step drops. Griffin threw to WR Pierre Garcon, TE Fred Davis and RB Roy Helu. “Those are guys we’ll lean heavily on in the season,” Griffin said. “I’ll build chemistry with them and get a feel for how Jordan and Chris play and continue to work with Fred and get back with Pierre. He’s the guy… I want to make sure me and him are on the same page. He’s a big-play receiver who can do a lot of things. It’s good to see him back healthy and doing a lot of stuff.”

Our View: More good news for Griffin here. All reports about his recovery this offseason has been positive and he’s on track to be ready for the start of the regular season.
