Giants | Andre Brown expected to be goal line back

The New York Giants are expected to use RB Andre Brown as their goal line specialist.

Our View: That makes the most sense. David Wilson should be the lead back but we’ll see Brown mixed in as a change of pace and goal line back. Brown is bigger than Wilson and is more capable of being a pile pusher.

Vikings | New bed helping Jerome Simpson’s back

Minnesota Vikings WR Jerome Simpson says his new Tempurpedic mattress has helped stabilize his back and keep him in good posture. Simpson suffered a lower-back ailment, which turned out to be a nerve issue, that squashed his production for two months. ‘It was more my push-off,’ he said. ‘I didn’t really have my burst to be able to get away from my defenders when I needed to.’ Simpson says he’s back at 100 percent.

Our View: Simpson was thought to be a steal in free agency last year but failed to impress during his first season with the Vikings. We’ll see if he can have a better year in 2013.

Browns | Vertical offense earning praise

Cleveland Browns offensive players have raved about their first impression of OC Norv Turner’s scheme. ‘Defenses will be shocked to say the least with how much we’re running downfield,’ WR Josh Gordon said. WR Greg Little said Turner ‘calls more post and go routes than I’ve ever run before.’ ESPN Stats and Information cites that the Browns threw the ball 10 yards or fewer downfield on 73.3 percent of their 2012 passes, and 20 yards or more on only 9 percent.

Our View: Turner knows how to build a strong offense. The Browns have the pieces in place to produce more than some think in 2013. It will all come down to the QB competition and how the winner performs. Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell are battling for the starting job in camp.
