Chargers | Ryan Mathews says he’s been average, makes changes

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews said he’s ‘been just an average back.’ After bulking up last year in an effort to absorb hits more effectively, he has leaned out this year while also incorporating different stretches to stay flexible. Mathews is also studying more, specifically changing and working on understanding his blocking technique.

Carolina Panthers WRs Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell are locked in at the top two spots. Ted Ginn Jr. has stood out during minicamp, catching several deep passes from Cam Newton. Armanti Edwards looks more comfortable playing the position. Ginn and Edwards will compete with Kealoha Pilares, Joe Adams and David Gettis for roster spots and reps.
