Patriots | Michael Hoomanawanui could get bigger role

New England Patriots TE Michael Hoomanawanui could get a bigger role in the offense this season after the team released TE Aaron Hernandez.

Our View: “Uh-oh” is an athletic TE who knows how to use his frame to get open. However, we’ve been hearing more this offseason about 2013 UDFA Zach Sudfeld (Nevada). We’ll see guys like Daniel Fells, Sudfeld, and Hoomanawanui compete for more playing time.

Lions | Two RBs could compete for one spot

Detroit Lions RBs Theo Riddick and Steven Miller could compete for one roster spot during training camp because both are speed backs that could be used as a kick returner.

Our View: Riddick (2013 sixth-round) played both RB and slot WR during his time in college at Notre Dame. He also contributed as a return man for the Fighting Irish. Miller (2013 undrafted) played his college ball at Appalachian State and was a standout player because of his big play ability. We like Miller’s willingness to run inside, lower his shoulder, and keep his feet moving upon contact. Either back is a good option for the practice squad if they don’t make the final roster.
