Jets | Battle setting up for No. 3 QB job

New York Jets QB Greg McElroy and QB Matt Simms are battling for the No. 3 quarterback job, if the team even decides it is necessary to keep three behind QBs Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith. Quarterbacks coach David Lee has been trying to get McElroy to take more chances downfield, instead of option for check-downs.

Jets | Vladimir Ducasse might be on bubble

New York Jets OL Vladimir Ducasse played every position except center during the offseason, helping his chances of sticking around. However, the team drafted three offensive linemen and improved depth, so he will need to earn his roster spot, especially with his biggest proponent, general manager Mike Tannenbaum now gone.

Chargers | Won’t put pressure on Ryan Mathews

It seems as though the San Diego Chargers have come to grips with the fact that RB Ryan Mathews won’t be the stud three-down running back they envisioned when they traded up to select him 12th overall in the 2010 NFL Draft. RB Danny Woodhead has been very impressive in offseason workouts, and The San Diego Union Tribune’s Michael Gehlken thinks Woodhead will be a big part of the Bolts’ running attack, taking valuable repetitions away from Mathews.

Our View: This story came from an interview with Gehlken on our podcast “The Audible”. Gehlken advocated Woodhead as a later pick in PPR leagues, and we agree with his advice.

Giants | Former RB high on David Wilson

Retired RB Tiki Barber said New York Giants RB David Wilson is the most dynamic running back the Giants have ever had. ‘I wasn’t fast. I was quick, I was elusive, I had good vision but I didn’t have breakaway speed like he does. I wasn’t the athlete like he is. I worked hard to get where I was. As long as he doesn’t take that for granted and works hard on top of it, he can be fantastic,’ Barber said.
