Vikings | Christian Ponder needs to produce

Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder must show improvement, and that he is growing as a quarterback. If he struggles this season, the team is not likely to hesitate to go to QB Matt Cassel as its starter. Plenty of people in the league still believe Cassel is underrated, and he could fare well in Minnesota. However, it is Ponder’s starting job to lose.

Raiders | D.J. Hayden remains unsigned

Oakland Raiders CB D.J. Hayden (heart) remains unsigned, and the first-round pick’s situation is unique because of health reasons. Hayden had surgery in the spring to repair issues stemming from a life-threatening heart surgery he had last November. The team said they expect Hayden to be ready for training camp, which starts Friday, July 26. If Hayden requires more recovery time, it could stall contract talks.
