Jets | Santonio Holmes placed on PUP

The New York Jets placed WR Santonio Holmes (foot) on the Physically-Unable-to-Perform (PUP) list Tuesday, July 23. He is still recovering from his Lisfranc injury. ‘I don’t have a target date,’ Holmes said over the weekend. ‘I don’t want to do anything to jeopardize myself being ready for the season.’

Footballguys View: This was expected and comes as no surprise. Holmes is working back from a Grade 4 (most severe) Lis Franc injury. His status for the start of the regular season is unclear at this time.

Giants | Bear Pascoe to start out at FB

New York Giants TE Bear Pascoe is expected to fill in at fullback until the injured FB Henry Hynoski (knee) is ready to return from offseason knee surgery.

Footballguys View: Pascoe is country strong and position versatile. The former rodeo champion (calf roping) is tough, mean, and aggressive enough to be a nasty lead blocker.

Giants | Looking for fourth pass rusher

The New York Giants need DLs Mathias Kiwanuka, Jason Pierre-Paul and Justin Tuck to get after the quarterback and improve the pass rush in 2013. With DL Osi Umenyiora (Falcons) gone, the team will be looking for a fourth pass rusher to emerge. DLs Damontre Moore, Adewale Ojomo, Adrian Tracy and Justin Trattou will all have opportunities to show what they can do during training camp and the preseason.

Giants | Hakeem Nicks expected to be cautious

New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks (knee) is entering a contract year, so he is expected to be cautious during training camp and the preseason.

Footballguys View: Nicks is incredibly talent but injuries have hampered him during his pro career. If healthy he could easily finish the season as a top 15 WR in fantasy football. Nicks is entering the final year of his contract and could be in for a huge payday if he stays healthy and produces at the level he’s capable of.
