Seahawks | Percy Harvin to have hip surgery

Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks WR Percy Harvin (hip) posted on his official Twitter account Tuesday, July 30, that he requires surgery for his hip. The estimated recovery time is three to four months, according to a source close to Harvin. He could still end up on short-term Injured Reserve, and return at some point this season.

Browns | Neither kicker stepping up

Cleveland Browns PKs Brandon Bogotay and Shayne Graham are both competing for the starting job, but neither is excelling at training camp so far. Head coach Rob Chudzinski had a kicking competition before practice Monday, July 29, to see who would work with the first team, and apparently the competition wasn’t pretty. Accuracy has been a problem for both kickers, missing frequently so far.

Browns | Barkevious Mingo not giving critics fodder

Cleveland Browns LB Barkevious Mingo is playing with the second team defense in training camp, and he has also worked on various special teams units. Mingo says he embraces and loves working on special teams. However, if there is one criticism, he needs to work on his pass rush moves. He lacks a strong secondary move at this point, and until he develops his pass rush ability and sharpens his coverage ability, LB Jabaal Sheard is expected to serve as a starter with Mingo coming in on pass-rush specific downs.

Browns | Work ethic questionable with Josh Gordon?

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (knee) was scolded during practice Monday, July 29, for not finishing plays or running after the catch. Gordon is battling patellar tendinitis, and perhaps was favoring his leg. However, he also has reportedly been the last receiver into position drills, and he has yet to work with QB Brandon Weeden and QB Greg Little after practice, despite the fact that Little and Weeden have worked on routes after every single session so far.

Browns | Brandon Weeden’s best shot is now

Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner has a history of turning his signal callers into stars, as his system is very quarterback friendly. That bodes well for QB Brandon Weeden, who has looked more comfortable in training camp this season as opposed to last year under former head coach Pat Shurmur’s offense. Weeden has struggled in the red zone in practice, and he has rushed some throws under pressure, however.

Browns | Three-way battle to start at CB

There is a three-way battle shaping up in Cleveland Browns training camp for the starting job opposite CB Joe Haden. CB Buster Skrine has been working as the starter in the base defense, and he moves to the slot when the team runs its nickel defense. CB Christopher Owens has reportedly been the second most dominant corner in camp behind Haden. Skrine, Owens and CB Leon McFadden are each battling for that starting job opposite Haden.
